Koolfog Misting System Cools La Quinta Fire Department

Visit Fire Station #32 in La Quinta California and you’ll be invited to tour their facility.  Like many fire departments that host guests and school students on Field Trips, a tour might include information on what the station does, what equipment they use, and of course, a close inspection of the fire trucks!

La Quinta FiretruckAt Station #32, you’ll get a bit more. According to Firefighter Anthony Khatami, “We have a Koolfog misting system on our patio so we can eat out there or host groups outside.”  This is particularly important in the warmer months.

In addition to providing misting systems and outdoor heaters for comfort and outdoor patio enjoyment, Koolfog misting solutions are often used to combat heat stress in one of the harshest climates around.

According to the Calforinia Office of Emergency Managements “Heat Contingency Plan” draft of 2010, the impact of heat waves is a serious threat. “Heat waves do not cause damage or elicit the immediate response of floods, fires, earthquakes, or other more “typical” disaster scenarios. While heat waves are obviously less dramatic they are potentially more deadly. The worst single heat wave event in California occurred in Southern California in 1955, when an eight-day heat wave resulted in 946 deaths. Heat emergencies have claimed more lives over the past 16 years (according to 2010 draft version) than all other declared disaster events combined.”
Heat stress is a very real danger for fire department, search & rescue and military personnel, especially in hot, dry climates. Their heavy equipment combined with high outdoor temperatures and lethal temps associated with a raging fire put these heroes at risk. As such, Koolfog extends its reach past the La Quinta Fire Station to supporting firefighters across the country. Koolfog provides first responders and firefighters with portable fans in the field, cooling stations for avoiding heat stress, as well as special effects devices to enhance the fidelity of emergency services personnel training.

Setting up rehab centers for personnel equipped with water, food, shade and misting systems helps reduce the chance for heat related maladies and offers a haven to rejuvenate. Koolfog takes our job cooling these heroes seriously.

But back at home, the Koolfog misting system at Station #32 also provides a good visual to provide information about the realities of heat stress for all Coachella Valley residents. “The system works really well”, says Khatami, “we have lots of people ask about the mist when they see it”.
